Frank Ocean has offered his condolences to the victims and families who lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday, Nov. 13. In the note, which he posted on Tumblr, he also called out a resurfaced tweet from Donald Trump, accusing him of “spinning a tragedy for political gain.”
The confirmed death toll in the Paris attacks has reached 127, with at least 118 of the victims being people at an Eagles of Death Metal show at Le Bataclan. Following the tragedy, which ISIS has taken responsibility for, the French government has shut down all concert halls, movie theaters and other public places until further notice.
“LOVE TO PARIS AND ANY INDIVIDUAL OR FAMILY WHO’S LOST LOVED ONES TO EVIL ANYWHERE IN THIS WORLD. CHILL W/ THE ANGLES [sic],” Ocean wrote.
“ON THE REAL THOUGH DONALD TRUMP,” he continued. “HOW IS IT ‘INTERESTING’ THAT THESE SHOOTINGS HAPPENED IN A COUNTRY THAT’S TOUGH ON GUNS? TELL US DON? BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT VACUOUS OBSERVATION WAS ABOUT GIVING YOUR NRA-LOVING CONSTITUENCY A HANDJOB AND SPINNING A TRAGEDY FOR POLITICAL GAIN AND I’M THINKING MAYBE USING A SITUATION WHERE DOZENS OF INNOCENTS HAVE JUST BEEN MURDERED IN THE STREETS ISN’T THE BEST TIME. NO?”
In his note, Ocean actually references a tweet from Trump dated back to Jan. 7 – the day of the shooting at the Paris office of French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo — that was picked up again in the wake of the tragic Nov. 13 events.
“Isn’t it interesting that the tragedy in Paris took place in one of the toughest gun control countries in the world?” Trump had written at the time. On the night of the Nov. 13 attacks, however, he tweeted, “My prayers are with the victims and hostages in the horrible Paris attacks. May God be with you all.”
